Die römische Straße "Via Militaris" wurde im 1. Jahrhundert n. Chr. gebaut und führte durch die Stadt. Im Mai 2010 wurden während der Arbeiten am Korridor 10 gut erhaltene Überreste der Straße ausgegraben. Vor der vollständigen Unabhängigkeit der Balkanländer gab es im Westen von Dimitrovgrad einen osmanischen Militärstützpunkt.
