Bergham Castle

The Bergham Castle, also known as the freehold Tisching, was located in the district of Bergham in the municipality of Leonding in the Linz-Land district and was demolished in 2011. The Berghamer family is believed to be the namesake for the place and the castle. However, the location of the original seat of the Berghamers is not clearly established, as there were other Bergheims in the 12th and 13th centuries and even today, all of which were interpreted as ancestral castles of the Berghamers. The name Bergham first appears in an exchange contract between the Wilhering monastery and Gerold von Kürnberg. The document is dated between 1155 and 1161, and in this contract, the names Ekhartd de bercheim and Wilham der bercheim are mentioned as witnesses. Also, in further documents of the Wilhering convent, Berghamers appear repeatedly, such as the names Fridericus et Richerus de Percheim, Reycher von Percheim and his son Otto, who bequeath to the convent a property in the area of Perg "as a soul's good" for the deceased mistress Benedicta, or Seyfried der Baerchaimer and his wife Elsbet, who donate a farm in Bergham to the convent. In the 14th century, the Pergheimers also appear in Ebelsberg, with a freehold being recorded from 1500 onwards. Since the 16th century, the Pergheim family is considered to be extinct.
