Parish Church Mayrhofen

The Roman Catholic parish church of Mayrhofen is located in a cemetery in the north of the municipality of Mayrhofen in the district of Schwaz in Tyrol. It is dedicated to "Our Lady" and belongs to the deanery of Zell am Ziller in the Archdiocese of Salzburg. The building is under monument protection.
The church likely dates back to the 14th century. After a fire, the building was rebuilt under the direction of the master builder of the Hagauer construction lodge, Lienhart Plutaur, between 1500 and 1511. In a document from 1544, it is referred to as "gotzhaus unserer lieben Frauen zw Mairhoff." The Gothic choir was consecrated in 1511. Between 1589 and 1590, the church burned down again. In 1664, it was raised to the status of a vicarage. This made it independent from Zell am Ziller and saved the believers the long journey there. In 1740/41, the nave was demolished and replaced by a Baroque structure by the Hippach master builder Hans Holzmeister. The most significant paintings from this time are the 14 images of the Stations of the Cross created by Joseph Michael Schmutzer around 1743. The high altar is a four-column altar by Veit Steiner, who also came from Tyrol. The Madonna with Child was created around 1840 by Josef Arnold the Elder.
