Bike Trail Tirol Stage 12: Pillersee Variant

On your way from Kössen to Kitzbühel there is a splendid alternative biking route, featuring 850 meters of altitude gain on 42 kilometers. A quite long but very scenic tour of intermediate difficulty.
Follow the green signposts with the Bike Trail Tirol logo to Erpfendorf and continue slightly uphill to Waidring (1 hour from the trailhead). At the village center, turn right onto the road to St. Ulrich am Pillersee. After 2 km, turn right across a small bridge before crossing the road and proceeding to Pillersee (swimming option). Follow the signposts to St. Ulrich and then to Hochfilzen. Ride across the basin landscape and proceed south east to Wiesental on a paved road. After a kilometer in this small valley, turn left and shortly afterwards turn right onto a forest trail parallel to the road. Ride past Wiesensee (swimming option) to the Warminger Weiler near Hochfilzen (1.5 hours from Waidring). Keep riding on the mountain bike route ‘252 Rundweg Buchensteinwand’ for more than 10 km. The route runs through the forest above Fieberbrunn to St. Jakob in Haus, slightly uphill. Go left down the main road for only 250 m before turning right to Fieberbrunn. Follow the green signposts (later: St. Johann) to the houses of Mühlbach halfway between Fieberbrunn and St. Johann (1.5 hours from Warming). The route ends where it meets the ‘Kössen-Kitzbühel’ route just before the ascent to Kitzbühler Horn.
