Cleveland is one of 21 Bayside suburbs making up the Redland Shire. There is some confusion about where the name came from but it was 1850 when the area was first proclaimed a township, based around a proposed seaport. Due to an unfortunate incident involving Governor Sir George Gipps and the mudflats found around Cleveland, the new port never eventuated. Instead it has developed over the years into a pleasant community where the pace of life is just that bit more relaxed.
