Flying into Perth you notice the ocean to the west, the hills in the east and the Swan River carving up the centre. What you don?t see are the wetlands and lakes that stretch from Perth?s northernmost to southernmost boundaries. It?s quite astounding just how much water there is, and I?m told this is hugely important to the area?s ecology. Much of Perth was once wetlands and what?s left is only a fraction of what there once was.
