After being closed to the public for over 100 years, Point Nepean National Park is now a popular tourist destination. There is spectacular ocean scenery with the sometimes wild Bass Strait on one side and the calmer waters of Port Phillip Bay on the other. The turbulent Rip, the narrow entrance to the bay, is at the end of this narrow finger of land. The park is home to now derelict Fort Nepean, established in 1882, and the historic Quarantine Station first established in 1852.
