Sarajevo is known to everyone as the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, hard hit by the Yugoslav Civil War, but this is a thankless reminder for the city that has a centuries-old history behind it. The city formed an important bastion at the extreme borders of the Ottoman Empire from which they could easily harass the other great empire under the name of Austria-Hungary. The Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian influences are still very noticeable in this city as there are mosques and churches scattered throughout the city. This ensures that a visit to this unique city will not soon be forgotten.
