During the religious wars in the 16th century, Nevele and its surroundings suffered greatly from looting and iconoclasm. The most famous Lord of Nevele and also Count of Hoorne, Filip de Montmorency, was beheaded in Brussels in 1568 along with the Count of Egmont as a result of this conflict. The lordship of Nevele was declared forfeit, and Nevele has struggled to recover from these blows. Author: Dromos More information
