Every Sunday after Pentecost, there is the Fiertel in Ronse, honoring St. Hermes. The name "Fiertel" comes from Feretrum, which means shrine. During this 33 km round, the relics of St. Hermes are carried around. This Saint is worshipped against headaches, neurasthenia, madness, and epilepsy.
The Abbey of Ronse received the relics of this Roman Saint as early as 860. During an invasion by the Normans in 880, these relics could be saved by making them disappear from the abbey.
