The theatre "Publiekstheater" is the home of the Dutch Theatre Ghent (N T G).
Although it gives the imporession of being a renaissance building, it was built in 1899 by the famous architect de Vigne.
The four gentlemen you see represented symbolise the 4 cultural organisations of Ghent, which date back from the Middel Ages and renassance. These were called Rederijkerskamers.
A representation of Apollo and its muzes, embellishes the fronton. At the top, you see the Lady "Harmonia".
In the period 1979 up to 1993, there the theatre got a facelift. What's wothwhile to see is the "foyer" inside the theatre, where you can have just a drink or a complete meal. Especially the terras of the "foyer" offers one of the best views of Ghent.
