Loppem is a village in the Province of West Flanders. The village has been a part of Zedelgem since 1977. Lophem is mentioned in a document from 1108. In October 1918 - during the liberation after World War I - King Albert I settled in the castle of Loppem. On November 21, 1918, he founded "the government of Loppem," the first government where socialists, liberals, and Catholics sat together. During the eighteen-day campaign (World War II), King Leopold III also stayed at the castle (May 18-25, 1940).
