Saved Wonder When Franz-Georg von Metternich-Ochsenhausen sold Reinhardstein Castle in 1812, its fate seemed sealed. The castle was thereafter used as a quarry. What remained of the structure 150 years later excited Professor Overloop. The scholar began to rebuild the ruin stone by stone starting in 1970. He used comparable buildings in the nearby Eifel as models. Today, Reinhardstein Castle once again proudly stands on the rock spur as it did in its heyday. Inside the castle, there is an impressive collection of furniture, weapons, and tapestries that can be viewed.
