Geredde wonder Toen Franz-Georg von Metternich-Ochsenhausen in 1812 kasteel Reinhardstein verkocht, leek het lot bezegeld. Het kasteel werd vanaf dat moment als steengroeve gebruikt. Wat 150 jaar later van de bouw over was, begeesterde professor Overloop. De geleerde liet de ruïne vanaf 1970 steen voor steen opnieuw oprichten. Als voorbeeld gebruikte hij vergelijkbare gebouwen in de nabijgelegen Eifel. Tegenwoordig prijkt kasteel Reinhardstein weer zo trots als in zijn bloeiperiode op de rotsachtige heuvel. In het interieur van het kasteel bevindt zich een indrukwekkende collectie meubels, wapens en wandtapijten die bezichtigd kan worden.
