Montenau is a village in the municipality of Amel, in the Belgian province of Liège. It is located in the municipality of Amel.In 1876 the German Julius Jung carried out geological research in the region around St. Vith. He worked on a route for a railway line that would connect Aachen and St. Vith: the Vennbahn. Jung had worked as a foreman in American gold mines and was intrigued by gold discoveries near Amel.
