Steytelinck

Steytelinck House, now cultural centre, seat of the Wilrijkse heemkundige kring and café-restaurant with extensive landscape park, located against the church choir on the corner of Alfons Wellensstraat. The origin of this - long unnamed - good is unknown. Naming goes back to Joachim Steudlin who in the second half of the 16th century had repair and/or renovation work carried out on the castle that was built circa 1521-1522 (see, among other things, the year 1598 on beam in storage). The property had many owners, including Michel Severijns (1810-1815) who enlarged the domain and had a romantic park built. After the construction of Fort VI and the construction of the railway left the ponds dry, widow Moretus had the park rebuilt by landscape architect Michiels; In the same period, the interior design was also adjusted. Since 1929 public park, reportedly re-created by V. De Bosschere. The castle, owned by the district since 1967, was officially opened in 1975 after repair and adaptation works (see inscription on keystone in side façade).
