Hantes

The Hantes or Hante is a river in Belgium and France, a tributary of the Sambre that is part of the Meuse basin. It originates at the Hurtau farm in Froidchapelle, crosses the eastern end of the Nord department, and re-enters Belgium where it confluences with the Sambre, at Labuissière in the municipality of Merbes-le-Château.

Originating in Froidchapelle, the river flows through the villages of Fourbechies, Renlies, and Solre-Saint-Géry before reaching Beaumont. Upon leaving Beaumont, it flows through Leval-Chaudeville before entering France, where it waters the villages of Reugnies and Bousignies-sur-Roc before re-entering Belgium at Montignies-Saint-Christophe, passing under the ancient 'Pont Roman'. Flowing northward, it passes west of Hantes-Wiheries and empties into the Sambre upstream of Labuissière.
