How many foreign motorists would have looked curiously at that impressive building from the Antwerp ring road? Depending on their direction of travel, they will see the words theater , dance and architecture on deSingel. The smart ones take the next exit to take a closer look at the building. Not only do they see the fourth word ( music ) and they therefore clearly know what deSingel stands for.
The architecture of deSingel is a calling card of two of Flanders' greatest architects. Léon Stynen designed the first building, which was only fully completed after three decades. Stéphane Beel realized the impressive expansion. It houses the international art center deSingel and the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
Finished watching (and possibly also tasting in the Grand café deSingel)? Then continue your way that leads through Schans Mastvest, among other things. Be sure to admire the two bridges by architect Emiel Van Averbeke, remnants of the Antwerp World Exhibition of 1930.
