The presence of this water mill is attested as early as 1226. It belonged half to the lord and chapter of Sainte-Waudru in Mons. Under the old regime, the brewery, the oven and the mill were "ban", that is to say that they were part of the seigneurial domain. To have the use of these instruments, the manants had to leave to the miller a part of their grind. This fee was called "banality"
