The Sint-Barbarakerk is the parish church of Eisden-Tuinwijk in Eisden and a so-called mine cathedral. It is located on Kastanjelaan. The church was built after the coal mine of Eisden was established and went into production in 1923, during which various cités were built under the name Eisden-Tuinwijk. These were located to the west of the Zuid-Willemsvaart. This led to a significant increase in the population and generated the need for a new church. The Brussels architect Auguste Vanden Nieuwenborg designed a monumental church in the style of brick expressionism, with gothic elements such as pointed arch windows. The stained glass windows in the choir are inspired by those of the cathedral of Chartres. The church, equipped with a stout tower of 53 meters high, was built from 1934 to 1936.
