Originally, a provisional chapel was erected in 1893 on the site of the current Champagnat Institute, a few steps away. However, the rapid urbanisation of the Helmet district called for the construction of a larger church. Therefore, the church dedicated to the Holy Family was built in 1901. For financial reasons, at first only the central part of the church, in neo-Gothic style, was built. It was not until about 30 years later that the church was completed with a 60-metre bell tower in Art Deco style.
