To the NE of this point, towards Antwerp, the motorway cuts 20m into the landscape. This hill is the Cuesta of Waasmunster and is caused by the hard Rupelian clay layer that outcrops here. This is also the reason why it is wooded here, as those clay soils are not very ideal for agriculture. Too wet in the winter and too dry in the summer.
