In the year 1259, four elms were planted to demarcate the square and commemorate the first municipal freedoms. The trees survived until 1877 but then they fell prey to a storm. With their circumference of 15m and their height of 50m, they were nevertheless very robust. One of the tribes has been preserved. At the end of the 19th century it was transformed into a pavilion with a bench inside. It was moved first to Brussels and then to Antwerp, before returning to his native village in 1920.
