Description

Neoclassical church (1728), with medieval tower. Interesting cemetery.-#xA;The church, situated on a church hill, is surrounded by a walled cemetery with 16th-18th century stone grave crosses. By the church tower is the grave of Pastor Hendrik Veltmans, an advocate for Flemish consciousness in Voeren. Following vandalism, a new monument was erected by Willy Ceyssens. The cemetery also includes some American war pilots.-#xA;The church from 1728 has three naves, with a main entrance next to the tower. That is a remnant of the old 13th-century church. The masonry incorporates quartzite and flint. The choir was the last to be added in 1730.-#xA;The furniture is baroque. The choir stalls date from the 17th century. The altars, confessionals, and communion railing are from the 18th century. The baptismal font in blue stone is Romanesque and comes from the 13th-century church. A modern brass cover has been placed on it.-#xA;Among the interior are a statue of Saint Blaise (17th century) and a Saint Martin on horseback (18th century). The patron saint is also found on a bas-relief on the southern outer wall. At the entrance, Saint Michael and Our Lady are also depicted.-#xA;The village view is further dominated by the railway viaduct (built during World War I). In the vicinity, there are numerous wonderfully beautiful walking paths mapped out.
