Krindaal

Krindaal is a side valley of the Veursdal and is a dry valley, which means a valley without a large watercourse. In a dry valley (also known as del or delle), flowing water is only visible after heavy rain or when snow and ice begin to melt. Along the way, you will encounter a typical feature of the Voeren landscape: the 'graften' (steep embankments). In the past, these were the property boundaries against the slopes and these boundaries were usually marked with hedges. Especially during winters, those hedges prevented the erosion material that came down from higher on the slope. On the other side of the hedge, erosion would start again, and that erosion material was in turn stopped by the next, lower hedge. When the hedges were later removed, it became clear that the slope had been subdivided into several slopes or 'graften'. This is thus a process initiated by humans that was completed by nature.
