The Chartreuzenbos (also Chartreuse Forest) owes its name to the Carthusian order that originated in the Chartreuse region. Today, this forest of beautiful oaks and beeches still covers an area of 70 hectares, but there is no doubt that it used to be much larger and offered the possibilities for a secluded life of prayer.
