According to one of the legends, the Pierre Haina is the stop that closes a subterranean gallery. This shaft would lead deep into the center of the globe, where the devil reigns in his hellfire. Sometimes hellfire became too much even for the devil, or he wanted to catch new souls, and decided to crawl out of his hell. He pushed the rock away and wandered around the area. No one ever saw him because before the crowing of the rooster he had disappeared again and the stone was back in place. But... The villagers noticed that he had passed by again: chickens were dead, ... Quarrel broke out,... disease came in the village, ... It would have been enough for the Wérisiens! They came together and looked together for a solution at a gin. Many possibilities were proposed, but always proved to be impracticable. A little girl, dressed all in white, brought the freshly picked eggs of that morning. That was it ! WHITE! The devil has an aversion to the pure WHITE. From that day on, the Pierre Haina is whitewashed by the Wérisiens at every autumn equinox.
