The Weissen Stein, the white stone, is a quartzite rock left behind by the mudflows when the climate warmed after the last Ice Age. It is officially located at a height of 692.5 m above sea level, the so-called second highest point in Belgium. For comparison: the Botrange, the highest point in the country, is at 694 m, the Baraque Michel at 672 m. However, the hiking map Weissen Stein mentions 'only' 665 m, which seems more in line with the NGI maps, the well-known topographic maps.
