The Vinne is a 130 ha nature reserve of the province of Flemish Brabant, located in a depression in the valley of the Kleine Gete, on the eastern edge of the city Zoutleeuw.De name of the domain Het Vinne refers to a fen that originated at this place. It was once the largest in Flanders. On the basis of a charter of Duke John I of Brabant, which mentions the income of 1278, it could be traced that "the fen" at Zoutleeuw was later used to excavate peat (e.g. by the Park Abbey. In the 13th century the Vinne was called the "peat pit of Leo". Until the 19th century, this 4 meter deep pit was constantly under water.
