The little dog across the street is, after Manneke and Jeanneke Pis, the third 'urinating' statue in the streets of Brussels. Sculptor Tom Frantzen provided the necessary urination tube, but the plan was not executed for safety reasons. A street artist then left a splash of yellow paint behind...
With nearly 190 different nationalities, Brussels, alongside Dubai, has the most diverse population in the world. It becomes difficult to find a ‘ketje,’ a ‘real Brusseleir’ whose (grand)parents were born here. More than seventy percent of Brussels residents now have roots abroad. They are symbolized by this Zinneke, the Brussels name for a mixed-breed street dog. The Zinneke Parade is a biennial, participatory, and creative event that exuberantly celebrates this superdiversity with a colorful parade through the city center.
Cross Kartuizersstraat and follow Oude Graanmarkt to Dansaertstraat. On the left in Moutstraat, there are several primary and secondary schools. A few years ago, it was made car-free and creatively designed, in consultation with the students.
