The St. Germanus Church of Miskom is a modest parish church built in brick and stone, the choir of which dates from around 1600 and the nave was partially rebuilt in 1785. In 1874-1877 it was extended to a design by Louis van Arenbergh. History It is said that as early as the 13th century, Miskom owned a church or chapel through the chapter of Saint-Lambert in Liège, which had the right of patronage and a third of the tithes. Around 1600, the Abbey of Villers acquired these rights. The second third of the tithes went to the abbey of Maagdendal, the third to the parish priest. Very little is known about the predecessor of the present church. According to Wauters, it was a three-aisled cruciform church consisting of a nave of four bays, a built-in west tower and a choir reinforced by buttresses, two bays deep with a three-sided closing. Repairs were carried out in 1619, 1702 and 1751 and was partially rebuilt in 1785 due to its size. In 1874-1877 it was expanded to a design by the Leuven architect Louis Van Arenbergh (1834-1882), provincial architect and designer of the Sacred Heart Church in Kessel-Lo (1875) and the Sint-Lambertus Church in Heverlee. In addition to the one-bay extension on the west side, the project included the construction of two sacristies and a new west tower with adjoining baptistery and storage room. At the same time, two choir windows were closed, new windows were installed and the nave walls were provided with buttresses. Contrary to what was originally planned, the old east sacristy was not demolished.
