The 19th-century trade expansion and industrialisation were the reason for the construction of the Bossuit–Kortrijk Canal and the pump station.
Increasing water traffic made it necessary to widen the canal around and to build a new pump station.
Today this beautiful piece of industrial archaeology houses the tourist office VVV West-Vlaamse Scheldestreek and the Beaufort cafe. The regional visitor centre illustrates this history and teaches you everything there is to know about the region.
