Depending on the abbey of Kortenberg (13th century). Bell tower erected after 1556 followed by the laying of the foundation stone of the church in 1628. In 1789 the abbess of Kortenberg was ordered by the Council of Brabant to enlarge the building, which was done a year later to a design by architect C.-J. Everaert (preserved plans), see memorial stone at the portal: 1. "Hunc lapdem posuit/ Joès Car. Lemmens/ hujus municipii praetor/ Hac 24 augustii 1790" 2. "Lapidem hunc posuere/ reverendus dominus/ Antonius van Craen hujus parochiae pastor/ ac reverendus dominus Engelbertus Verheyen/ ejus loci coadjutor/ hac 24 augustii 1790". 3. "Desen steen stelt/ den eersamen Petrus/ Verbrugghen, Borgem(eester) den 24 augustus 1790." Thus mentioning the various personalities who took part in the solemn laying of the stone.
