Domain Ter Borcht Just 1 km from the center of the municipality lies the Ter Borcht domain, a green area with buildings from the past and the present. The castle 'Ter Borcht', which was already known in the 13th century, gave its name to the Lordship of Meulebeke in the Middle Ages. Even now, both the V.I.L.O. sports school and the municipal sports and recreation center are named after it. In April 1965, the municipal council approved the purchase of the domain. The purchase included the castle with adjacent meadows and farmland, totaling 17 ha 66 ca 15 a in size. The establishment of the Free Institute for Physical Education (V.I.L.O.) at Ter Borcht in June 1966 was, following the purchase of the domain by the municipality of Meulebeke, an initial sporting achievement. Thanks to the positive efforts of the municipal administration, the V.I.L.O. developed into a fully-fledged sports school with a strong reputation throughout Flanders. The compulsory boarding school and 'self-government' are the most distinguishing factors in the guidance. Over the years, a jogging path, a mountain biking route, and a skate park have been established on and around the Ter Borcht domain.
