Hemelveerdegem is a part of the municipality of Lierde. Until the end of 1976 it was an independent municipality. Hemelveerdegem has an area of 2.76 km² and has approximately 400 inhabitants.
History
The oldest mention of Hemelveerdegem probably dates back to 963, when the village was known as Ermfredeghe.
