The pigeon tower on the courtyard of Avenschote Castle in Lembeke has been in disrepair for several years. The resident is Gonzales d'Alcantara and would like to restore it. That cost would amount to EUR 52 000. A brick version of a pigeon tower of this respectable age (put in 1510) is quite unique in Europe.
Having a pigeon tower was a feudal right. These pigeon towers gave some advantages. They were the GSMs of the time to receive messages about what was happening in the area. Moreover, you did not have to feed the pigeons because they were going to pick up some grains everywhere, and they also delivered manure for the land.
