This public bathing facility dates back to 1924. Its construction was part of the prevailing policy at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century to address hygiene problems and to promote better living habits among the population.
Numerous residents of Vilvoorde, but especially generations of schoolchildren, were able to bathe here weekly. In addition to shower baths, there was also a gymnasium provided. Notable inscriptions on the outer wall refer to the possibility of taking a shower bath here, such as:
- "Fresh water begets fresh mind",
- "'The clean and pure child is loved by all",
- "Bravery and intelligence are closely related".
The building now houses the municipal school for special secondary education De Vest.
