In the 14th century, construction of the church began, designed in the Gothic style by master builder Adam Gherijs. The existing Romanesque village church was replaced by a large, new church. In the following centuries, further construction continued on this quite imposing church.
After a collapse of the vaults a few years ago, extensive restoration work began. The church looks beautiful again and has been accessible to the public since 1996.
The most striking piece of furniture is undoubtedly the richly decorated Baroque choir stall from 1663. The choir stall was transferred to Vilvoorde from the former priory of Groenendaal, after it was completely dismantled during the French Revolution.
