In the hamlet of Gotegem we find the water mill of the same name. This mill was already mentioned in 1387 and belonged to the Court of Gotegem. In the immediate vicinity there is a hill, where according to the people a castle once stood. There was a second mill here that disappeared between 1680 and 1771.
The year 1808 appears in the roof. Another date, 1815, seems to indicate that the mud construction was replaced by stone. In 1898 a steam engine was installed, which has long since disappeared. Five mills from the firm of L. Cesbron Fils & Gendres from Angers were installed.
On April 21, 1993, the mill was protected as a monument (including the lockwork, the waterwheel and all movable work) and, together with its surroundings, as a village view. In addition, the valley of the Molenbeek was protected as a landscape on 5 November 2004. Owner Paul De Meyer milled all kinds of baking and fodder flour until around 2000. In 1999 a new water channel was installed. The mill has not been running since 2007.
The iron overshot wheel has a diameter of 2.80 metres and can drive a natural stone couple and an artificial stone couple. The equipment also includes roller chairs, a grain cleaner, a plan founder and an oat crusher.
