The Capuchin Fathers settled in Menin in 1603. It was also at this time that the foundation stone of the Capuchin monastery and the church was laid. In 1706, the church and monastery were destroyed during the 30-day siege of the city. The reconstruction took place from 1710 onwards. The period of the French Revolution (1789) began the decline of the monastery. In 1973, during works under the choir, a crypt measuring 15 by 10 m was found. In the left wall were 8 niches, each with 3 bodies. From the inscriptions, the niches could be dated between 1700 and 1770.
