Anyone who wants can walk left on the bike path at the end of Droogdokkenweg to visit the Antwerp Maritime Academy. Due to the work on the Oosterweel connection, you have to take the same route back to continue. With a view over the bend of the Scheldt, the school is located in one of the most beautiful spots in the city. A must to visit, if only to appreciate the architectural value of this modernist gem. “This building has been in use since 1932. The shape of the school is striking. When the Ministry of Transport announced an architecture competition in 1929, architect Josse Van Kriekinge won with a design that has many references to ship shapes.” Inside, you can admire the interior. Standout features include the paintings of port activities in the entrance hall from the 1930s. Further along, the Havenhuis towers above the Kattendijkdok. This landmark, a design by Zaha Hadid, can be visited with a guide.
