The bronze sculpture The Poet by artists Ossip Zadkin is an example of one of the more than thirty works of art in public spaces in the municipality of Knokke-Heist. The sculpture sensitively expresses "the singer of freedom". The municipality purchased the sculpture on the occasion of the Zadkine exhibition of 1963 in the Casino. It was inaugurated on September 4, 1965, in the presence of the sculptor. The Poet holds Orpheus' lyre to his chest; It is an "unfinished" image, a plant full of verses that has been torn apart. The poem Liberté by Paul Eluard was incorporated into the sculpture. More information: www.beeldenindestad.be.
