The city of Oudenaarde realized between 2002-2004 on an elongated vacant plot of land where the old Schelde previously flowed a valuable green bicycle and walking connection:. This connected the marina and the nature educational area 'Speibos' and established a cycling and walking link between the towpath along the Schelde north of the city and the part south of the city. The project was awarded in 2002 as a model project because it met the various criteria of Harmonious Park and Green Management and because it was a functional example of a safe bicycle and walking connection between a recreational green space in the city center (marina) and a nature area on the edge of the city ('t Spei).
