The Basilica of Saint Servatius in Grimbergen is considered one of the most beautiful and harmonious Baroque churches in the Low Countries. The church is part of the Norbertine abbey of Grimbergen but also serves as a parish church. In 1999, on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the church was granted the honorary title of basilica. Under the abbatiate of Carolus Fernandez de Velasco, the construction of this abbey church was started in 1660 according to the plans of the Premonstratensian Gilbert van Zinnick (1627 - 1665). By 1700 the works had progressed to such an extent that the church could be consecrated.
