About the artist
Sculptor; studied at the academies of Dendermonde and Brussels, where he won several first prizes and medals. His bronze and marble figurative work, especially of women and horses, indeed showcases a remarkable creative power, inspiration, and expressiveness, partly due to a certain stylization and sober line execution. De Decker has an impressive list of distinctions and awards to his name.
About the sculpture
Jos De Decker won the Prize of Rome with this work in 1941. The body of Eve is represented in a convincing, plastic manner. The graceful posture is striking: the slight bending of the right knee, the intertwined arms at the back, the head slightly bowed and turned to the side, the enigmatic, barely noticeable smile… The hairstyle leaves her serene face exposed. The beautiful Eve has almond-shaped eyes and a strongly defined straight nose, the lines of which seem to flow into her eyebrows. An enigmatic, barely noticeable smile plays around her lips.
