It's worth walking to the no-entry sign. You have a view of the church of Bellegem and the Bockor brewery. You understand why it's sometimes said "Bellegem above."
Between 1977 and 1978, the motorway was constructed. The road cut through the fields of the large Bellegem farms. The Kwabrugstraat was rerouted. Just over the motorway, you can see the farm of 'Putjes Kapelle.'
It wasn't until June 12, 1998, that the motorway was put into use. Due to the Pecq-ArmnetiÞres issues, a short section of the motorway was left unfinished at Dottenijs. For twenty years, farmers cultivated the median strip and mowed the grass. The asphalt disrupted the view, but the villages still enjoyed the silence back then.
