The Swarten Hoop is one of Loppem's oldest inns. Mentions go back to the 16th century. Until 1538, the aldermen of the lordship of Den Houtschen met here in session to administer justice (?vierschaar?), to register and administer sales. Like many rural inns, De Swarten Hoop was also a homestead. In addition, beer was also brewed. The large, vaulted beer cellar and the beer stirrer, carved into a beam from 1743, bear witness to this. The inn closed in 1768, only to reopen its doors as a restaurant-bistro in 1994. The inn was classified as a protected monument in 2002.
