At 156 meters, the legendary Kemmelberg is the highest point in West Flanders. This green icon serves as the beating heart of a magnificent provincial estate that offers hikers everything they need for a vigorous hike.
Those who walk here discover a landscape full of variety. In spring, the slopes of the hill transform into a purple carpet of bluebells, and the deep, hollow paths lead you through dense deciduous forests. Once at the top, you are treated to a spectacular panorama over Flanders Fields and the French hills. On clear days, you can even see the coastline.
Besides nature, the mountain also breathes history. During your hike, you will cross traces of an ancient Celtic settlement, impressive monuments from the First World War, and even a secret command bunker from the Cold War. Do prepare for a sporty challenge, as the unpaved forest paths and steep cobbled stretches can be real calf-biters.
