On the site of this old town hall, a court hall has stood since the late 14th century, which was destroyed and rebuilt several times. The current building dates from 1834. Since the construction of the new town hall in 1984, this building has housed the Social Service and the Department of Culture, Youth, Tourism, and Information of the city. The second floor has been set up as a museum, featuring not only a Dr. Hemerijckx room but also the most important finds from the excavations of the Norbertine Abbey. The old town hall is built in neoclassical style. At the moment, the entire building is being renovated, making the museum and the old town hall inaccessible for visits.
