Mariagrot founded in 1950-52 by the then pastor of Maldegem-Kleit, the Venerable Lord Joseph Brewée in the large garden behind the rectory and church. This garden formed a remnant of the so-called Kluisbos and extends behind the church along the Halledreef to the current Aalterbaan. Protected as a monument by ministerial decree of 9 June 2004.
